Monday Services Set For Drowning Victim

Funeral services are to be held Monday for Svetlana Aronov, 44, the Upper East Side woman whose body was found in the East River two months after she vanished while walking her father's dog.

The services are scheduled for 11 a.m. at the Synod of Bishops Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia, 75 E. 93rd St. at Madison Avenue, said Ed Hayes, attorney for the woman's husband, Alexander Aronov.

Svetlana Aronov, a rare-book dealer, disappeared March 3 after leaving her York Avenue apartment building to walk her father's dog, Bim. She was carrying only a cell phone and a house key.

An autopsy has found that she drowned after suffering small bruises on both shins. Her body surfaced Tuesday off Long Island City.

Police and the city medical examiner have not concluded whether Aronov was murdered, committed suicide or died accidentally.

Aronov and her husband, 45, a hematologist with offices in Manhattan and Brooklyn, both grew up in St. Petersburg, Russia. They have two daughters, Polina, 22, and Veronica, 9.

Police have focused their investigation on the doctor, who has denied any wrongdoing. A Web site created in Svetlana Aronov's honor says her husband has passed two lie detector tests.
